About the Committee
A Tree Committee has been constituted at the Panchayat level to protect trees standing along public roads and in public places, and to prevent accidents that may occur due to trees or their branches being uprooted or falling.
Formation and Functioning
Tree Committees at the Panchayat level have been constituted in accordance with the Local Self Government Department Circular No. 248/RC3/2016/LSGD dated 14.07.2017. At present, permission from the District Level Tree Committee is required for the removal of trees in certain circumstances. The local-level Tree Committee functions to avoid delays and ensure timely decisions in emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities
Duties and Functions
Tree Safety Inspection
Inspect trees and branches in public places to identify potential safety hazards.
Ensuring Public Safety
Take necessary action regarding trees that pose a threat to the lives and property of the public.
Hazard Prevention for Privately Owned Trees
Direct owners of privately owned trees in hazardous condition to remove them as necessary.
Legal Action
If the directions are not followed, initiate the relevant legal proceedings and recover the expenses from the concerned person.
Valuation of Trees
Ensure that the valuation of trees removed is carried out through the Forest Department.
Coordination of Tree Protection Activities
Coordinate tree protection activities within the Panchayat jurisdiction and ensure a safe environment.
Public Safety and Environmental Protection
The Panchayat Level Tree Committee functions with the objective of ensuring both public safety and environmental protection.
